SRI LANKA HOTELS
Boutique Hotels in Galle, Sri Lanka
Galle is often regarded as the centre of boutique hotels in Sri Lanka and there is something to be said for that. The old Dutch Fort in Galle is a boutique hotel designer’s dream – beautiful, solid 17th Century Dutch mansions in a walled compound overlooking the Indian Ocean. Several have been converted, but the stand out would the Galle Fort Hotel – a tremendous re-design by two Australian’s with a keen eye for style. Just outside the Fort itself, The Sun House was the original boutique hotel in Sri Lanka – perched at atop a hill it has been offering superb personalised service for almost 10 years now. Inland, Kahanda Kanda is a beautiful design led hotel in a beautiful setting by Koggala Lake.
Boutique Beach Hotels in Sri Lanka
There are less boutique hotels on the beach in Sri Lanka than might be expected. The coastline is dominated to the south of Colombo by large brash hotels, with exception of The marvellous Reef Hotel in Wadduwa. Further south – near Galle there are a few more. Aditya is divine, Apa Villa is low key and sumptuous and generally few of the hotels from here on round and too big and impersonal. Buckingham Place in Sri Lanka is a new and extremely accomplished addition to the group.
